Fine Art Oil Painting: Desert Blooms

It is getting cold here in the mountains of Colorado. We live at 10,200 feet and it is below freezing every night. To escape from the inevitable winter temps, we drive 4 hours to the desert in Utah. There it is a beautiful 70+ degrees and we can hike and mountain bike to our hearts content. The desert is filled with unusual botany that we are unused to seeing. Some desert flowers present themselves for viewing. They are incredibly luscious and varied in their colors. The current painting is one where I try to capture their beauty in oil paints. This original painting has SOLD! For other paintings like it, please visit my Ebay store at http://stores.ebay.com/The-Escape-Artist-Gallery_W0QQssPageNameZl2QQtZkm, plus note cards, are for sale on my website at http://www.laurabarat.com/.

I love the rich surreal colors of your art pieces. My favorite piece is the Blue Boxes because of its striking colors and your interpretation of the sea motif. Nice.

Really nice work. I love the brilliant colors. Still trying to get over the fact that you live above 10,000 feet for most of the year. Amazing. The air is rare up there!

These pictures are excellent! I sure wish I have a better connection than my GPRS at 53Kbps - I'm missing out on a lot from the Internet.

I agree, this piece is very beautiful.

The yellow in the middle jumps out and grabs you, then leads your eyes around the edges. I like the two red berries at the top that almost look like they could be eyes looking at you...

Makes me want to visit Utah.

I thought deserts were supposed to be barren, but with the way you illustrated the flower, I would think it grew in a rain forest.
Beautifully done

Wow, this one really pops! No wonder it sold. The colors and style remind me of things I saw in Mexico.

Hi Laura,

The colours on this work and its composition are really pleasant.
The red elements give it a nice touch.
Congratulations.
